As your dogs continue to grow, they may try and explore new things. However, since they are dogs and not like us, they do not know what behavior is right unless we tell them. Chewing and digging is a natural and normal behavior to canine animals, but to us humans it is destructive and sometimes causes us trouble.  This behavior can be prevented if we know how to train our dog to minimize chewing and digging. There are some tips on how to prevent and treat these problem of your pet and it start on basic house training. While digging is just normal and natural to your dog, still sometimes it annoys you to see your lawn with holes made by your dog. To avoid this, you may keep your dog indoors to prevent it from digging outside. If you decide to keep your dog in the yard, make its environment interesting to prevent it from digging to escape because they cannot bear the boredom. Also make sure that the fence is strong and in good condition. Moreover, discourage your dog from digging by putting something it does not like in his favorite digging area to tell your dog that he will get nothing in there. 

Aside from the fact that chewing and digging comes naturally to our canine friends, there are also some reasons why they do these. So it is better to understand and know these reasons for us to know what kind of approach to give them to prevent them from doing it. An example of this is if your dog tries to escape from its fence by digging because of boredom, you may prevent it by making your dog's place interesting to lessen boredom. You may also invest on some stuffed chew toys to prevent your dog from chewing some of your things at home and divert their attention through interesting toys that would keep them from digging

Chewing and digging is a natural and normal dog behavior, thus it cannot be avoided. However, if you get annoy by these behavior of your dog you may correct it and minimize the impact. But the process requires patience and time to be able to execute it effectively. Probably the most important key in preventing damage to your home is not to give your dog unsupervised free run inside your house. This simple rule is often the key to a happy dog's home.
